Ebook License Summary

The Ebook License allows you to embed the font in digital publications such as EPUB, PDF, Kindle, and similar reading formats. It’s intended for finished eBooks distributed to end users, where the font is part of the reading experience.
This license covers one single eBook title or digital publication and allows multiple collaborators (editors, designers, publishers) to work on that same title.
Commercial distribution is allowed, provided the font is embedded securely and not intended for extraction or reuse. Printed books require a Commercial / Desktop License. Apps, SaaS platforms, and interactive software require a different license.

What you CAN do

  • Embed the font in digital publications such as EPUB, PDF, Kindle, and similar eBook formats.
  • Use the font in one single eBook title or digital publication (including revisions or new editions of the same title).
  • Allow multiple collaborators (editors, designers, publishers) to work on the same licensed title.
  • Distribute the eBook commercially or for free, with no limit on downloads or copies.
  • Embed the font in the final eBook file, provided it is secured and not intended for extraction or reuse.
  • Use the font for all typographic elements within the eBook, including body text, headings, captions, and cover text.
  • Convert the font to embedded formats required by eBook standards.
  • Share the final eBook file with distributors, publishers, and platforms for normal distribution.

What you CANNOT do

  • Use the font in printed books or physical publications (requires a Commercial / Desktop License).
  • Use the font in apps, interactive eBooks, SaaS platforms, or software (requires an App / Game or Custom License).
  • Distribute the font file separately or allow readers to extract, install, or reuse the font.
  • Use the same license for multiple unrelated eBook titles or publications.
  • Include the font in templates, authoring tools, or editable products.
  • Share, resell, sublicense, or redistribute the font as font software.
  • Use the font in unlawful, misleading, defamatory, infringing, or offensive content.
  • Claim ownership or authorship of the font or typeface design.

Do I need an Ebook License if I’m publishing a printed book only?

No. If your book is published only as a printed edition, you do not need an Ebook License. Printed books are covered by the Commercial / Desktop License.

The Ebook / EPUB License is an upgrade for digital publishing. It’s required only when the book is distributed as an eBook, because the font is embedded and distributed
inside the digital file.


If the same book is published both in print and as a digital eBook, you’ll need both licenses:

  • the Commercial / Desktop License for the printed edition, and
  • the Ebook / EPUB License for the digital edition.

Can multiple people work on the same eBook?

Yes. Editors, designers, publishers, and collaborators may all work on the same licensed eBook title under one Ebook License.

Is there a limit on downloads or copies?

No. You may distribute the eBook commercially or for free with no limit on the number of copies or downloads, as long as the font is embedded securely.

Can I use the font in interactive eBooks or apps?

No. Interactive eBooks (meaning eBooks that behave like software—like app-style books with animations, buttons, quizzes, audio/video controls, or user interaction), apps, SaaS platforms, and software products require an App / Game License or a Custom License.

What counts as one eBook title?

One title includes the same book in different formats (EPUB, PDF, Kindle) and minor updates or revisions. A new book or unrelated publication requires a new license.

Can I sell the eBook commercially?

Yes. Commercial distribution is fully allowed, provided the font is embedded and not made available for extraction or reuse.

Do I need DRM?

DRM is not required, but the font must be embedded in a way that does not allow readers to extract or install it as a standalone font.

Can I use the font for the eBook cover?

Yes. Using the font on the eBook cover is allowed as part of the licensed digital publication.

What license do I need for templates or editable documents?

The Ebook License does not cover templates or editable products. These use cases require a Custom License—please contact us so we can review your setup and recommend the right solution.

End User License Agreement (EULA)

This Ebook / EPUB Font License Agreement (“Agreement”) is a legal agreement between you (“Licensee”) and Indieground Design (“Licensor”) governing the use of the font software (“Font Software”) in digital publications. By purchasing, downloading, installing, or using the Font Software under this license, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree, do not use the Font Software.

1. Grant of License

Licensor grants Licensee a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use the Font Software solely for embedding in digital publications, subject to the terms of this Agreement.

This license permits embedding the Font Software within eBook files so the font can be displayed as part of the final reading experience.

2. Scope of License (Title-Based)

One Ebook / EPUB License covers:

  • One single eBook title or digital publication, and
  • All standard digital formats of that same title (e.g. EPUB, PDF, Kindle), and
  • Unlimited distribution of the licensed digital publication.


The license is project-based, not user-based. Multiple collaborators (editors, designers, publishers) may work on the same licensed eBook title.

A separate license is required for each additional, unrelated eBook title.

3. Permitted Uses

Under this Agreement, Licensee may:

  • Embed the Font Software in digital publications such as EPUB, PDF, Kindle, and similar eBook formats.
  • Use the Font Software for all typographic elements within the licensed eBook, including body text, headings, captions, and cover text.
  • Distribute the licensed eBook commercially or for free, with no limit on copies or downloads.
  • Embed the Font Software as part of the eBook file, provided it is secured and not intended for extraction or reuse.
  • Share the final eBook files with distributors, publishers, and digital platforms for normal distribution.
  • Release updated editions or minor revisions of the same eBook title without purchasing a new license.

4. Printed Books and Other Formats

This Ebook / EPUB License applies only to digital publishing.

  • Printed or physical books are not covered by this license and require a Commercial / Desktop License.
  • If the same book is published both in print and as a digital eBook, both licenses are required:
    • Commercial / Desktop License for the printed edition, and
    • Ebook / EPUB License for the digital edition.

The Ebook / EPUB License functions as an upgrade for digital publishing and does not replace the Commercial / Desktop License for print use.

5. Prohibited Uses

This Agreement does not allow Licensee to:

  • Use the Font Software in interactive eBooks, apps, SaaS platforms, dashboards, games, or software products (requires an App / Game License or Custom License).
  • Distribute, resell, sublicense, rent, or otherwise make the Font Software available as standalone font software.
  • Allow readers or third parties to extract, install, or reuse the Font Software.
  • Use the same license for multiple unrelated eBook titles or publications.
  • Include the Font Software in templates, authoring tools, editable documents, or products intended for reuse by others (requires a Custom License).
  • Modify the Font Software or create derivative font files.
  • Claim ownership or authorship of the Font Software or typeface design.
  • Use the Font Software in unlawful, misleading, defamatory, infringing, or offensive content.

6. Ownership and Intellectual Property

The Font Software is licensed, not sold. Licensor retains all ownership, copyright, and intellectual property rights in and to the Font Software.

Nothing in this Agreement transfers ownership of the Font Software to Licensee.

7. Termination

This Agreement is effective until terminated. Licensor may terminate this Agreement immediately if Licensee breaches any term.

Upon termination, Licensee must cease all use of the Font Software and delete all copies in their possession or control.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Font Software is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Licensor shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from the use or inability to use the Font Software.

Licensor’s total liability under this Agreement shall not exceed the amount paid by Licensee for this license.

10. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Italy, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Italy.

11. Entire Agreement

This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between Licensor and Licensee regarding the Ebook / EPUB License and supersedes all prior communications or agreements.

If any provision of this Agreement is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
